The Star of David, a six-sided star or hexagram
is known among Hebrews today as Mogen David
(perhaps similar is Latvian Mi(r)dzina Tauta = the (star) folk sparkles)
It was also called Solomon's Seal
and consisted of two interlaced triangles.
The Star of David is appropriately called a "STAR"
and - in a "very speculative" view -
it represents a double-triangulation which "maps"
the position of the major stars of the heavens
with the major axis along the Milky Way
from Sirius to Aquila.
As such, the Star of David was originally
the secret symbol of the stargazing priests,
later adopted by the Israelite Kings David and Solomon
and subsequently by the Hebrew people as a whole.
The author, Dr. O.J. Graham, says the first mention of the star was in Amos
5:26("But you carried a tabernacle
for your Moloch, the image of your idols, the star of your god, which you made
to yourselves") regarding the
trek from Egypt to Canaan. Then in 922 B.C Solomon married the daughter of
Pharoah and went into the study
of magic and witchcraft.The book traces the six pointed star from Egypt to
Solomon, to Arab magic and
witchcraft, to Druid use(references are documented).

How did the Star of David originate, and does it hold any significance to
cultural history?
The English word
“star” is
not the correct
translation of the Hebrew. The Hebrew word is Magen David which
means “the shield
of David,” not “the
star of David.” It
is called the shield of David because Jewish tradition
holds that David wore this particular insignia on his shield. However, there is
now sufficient evidence that as a
Hebrew symbol, it was well known long before Solomon.
People have come up with various interpretations of the Star of David, such as
two pyramids or triangles to
symbolize the Trinity of God or the trinity of man (body, soul and spirit). But
these are all theories and guesses
superimposed upon the symbol and have nothing to do with its actual origin. It's
misguided to try to compare it
with any symbols, satanic or otherwise, or try to assign it spiritual meanings
with which it did not originate.
What
is the History of Yantras?
The Brahmana
section of Atharva Veda contains verses which describe the mystic power of
Yantras.
(Brahmanas are one of four primary sections of each Veda; concerned mainly with
details of Yagya and
mysticism) Further details are found in the post Upanishid era texts known as
Brahiminical Texts.
These texts
contain details of ways of designing and preparing Yantras and their use.
Covered in secrecy and available
only within few families these texts have become available to general public
only in the 20th century.
Yantra is a Sanskrit word that means ' an apparatus' it is a mystic diagram
composed of geometric and
alphabetic figures--usually etched on small plates of gold, silver or copper.
These are also made in three
dimensions in stone or metal. The above yantra was carved nearly 10,000 years
ago into a rock near Adam's
Peak in Sri Lanka. Adam was thought to have visited there, and Noah was believed
to have brought the
remains of Adam and Eve on the Ark for reburiel. If the star was first
associated with Hebrews that far back,
then Solomon was not the first priest-king to continue it as a family symbol.
This leaves several ways the Star
symbol was brought into India and became the yantra.
The purpose of a Yantra is to focus spiritual and mental energies, to improve
health, wealth, childbearing or the
invoking of one God or another. It is usually installed near or under the temple
Deity. The temple Yantra is a
magnificent three-dimensional edifice of light and sound in which the devas
work. On the astral plane, it is much
larger than the temple itself. It is made is such a way that the male and female
energy patterns of the universe
interact and produce a high level spiritual energy. It is one of the deepest
secrets of ancient Hindus and many
parts of the texts dealing with these diagrams of energy are lost for mankind .
Yantra has also been defined as
a visual mantra i.e., it is able to create the vibrations and other mystic
effects of a Mantra by sight. In Tibet,
yantras are associated with Shangri-La as the place of highest learning, where
wise men from around the world
gathered to learn. It is also associated with the first Garden of Eden.
The mystic
power of Yantras has been narrated in many sacred books of India, Ladak, and
Tibet.. Lord Shiva
explains to his consort Parvati ,in Mahashiva Puran, that Yantra is as essential
to the worship of Gods as a
body is essential for a living being and as oil is essential to the oil lamps.
Hindus believe a Yantra is helpful in
every field of your life, to attain success in your profession, to acquire
wealth, to win in court cases, to ward off
diseases and to progress in meditation. By having a Yantra and keeping it in a
sacred place in your house,
worshipping it everyday can fulfil ones desires and attain ones goals.
Chakras
For poojas, velvis and yagnas, large symbols, called chakras, are drawn on the
ground and various
decorations are placed on top of them. The six-pointed star is but one of many
such geometric forms used this
way. The measurements for the geometric symbols must be as precise as possible.
The geometric symbols can also be combined to create more complex symbols. One
of the most complex and
well known is the Shri Chakra. This Chakra is on the back of the medals that
devotees wear around their necks.
It is composed of four triangles pointing up and five triangles pointing down.
Each of the triangles formed by the
intersection of these triangles is the dwelling place of a deity.
